How to Season Carbon Steel for Burger Smashers, Griddles, and Grills
Carbon steel and cast iron cookware require proper seasoning before use. Seasoning creates a durable, food-safe, non-stick surface while protecting the steel from rust and corrosion.
This guide applies to carbon steel burger smashers, grill grates, griddle tops, pans, and woks.
Carbon Steel Seasoning Wax
Our Carbon Steel Seasoning Wax is formulated specifically for high-heat cooking surfaces.
It blends:
Beeswax
Grapeseed oil
Canola oil
The oils provide high smoke points for proper polymerization, while beeswax helps bind and protect the seasoning layer. This blend is ideal for initial seasoning as well as daily maintenance.

Initial Seasoning Instructions
Your Camp King Grill is made from heavy-duty 10-gauge steel, designed to be a lifetime cooking tool. Proper care will ensure it performs flawlessly for years to come. Seasoning protects your grill from rust, helps it cook more evenly, and gives it that dark, slick finish that makes food release easily. The process is simple, but doing it right makes all the difference.
Initial Seasoning & First Use
Think of this first step as giving your product a fresh bath before using it.
Warm water and dish soap work great for this. You don’t need anything, just enough suds to lift off the oils from manufacturing. Wash every surface you can reach. Don’t rush this part. A clean start means a stronger seasoning later. When you're done, dry everything completely. Moisture is the enemy here, and even a tiny damp spot can keep your seasoning from sticking the way it should.
Our Carbon Steel Seasoning Wax mixes two high-smoke point oils—canola and grapeseed—with bees wax to create the ideal mixture for seasoning your Carbon Steel or Cast-iron products. Use for the initial seasoning of your Carbon Steel grill, Griddle, or burger press, as well as daily upkeep.
Apply the seasoning to the clean surface: Use a rag or paper towel and wipe the oil across the metal until it has a soft sheen. Make sure every corner gets covered, even the spots you don’t think you’ll use much. The more even the coat, the better the finish.
Heat & Bake: Preheat oven to 350-450°F, and bake for 30-60 minutes until the oil polymerizes (bakes on).
Cool & Repeat: Turn off the oven and let the grates cool completely; repeat steps two to three times before the first cook for best results.
Maintenance (After Each Use)
Warm & Oil: After cooking and while grates are still warm (but not hot), apply a light coat of oil to all surfaces to maintain the seasoning and prevent rust.
